Moon Walk! July 20, 2009,
is the 40th anniversary of Apollo 11 and the first walk on the moon.
Bring this remarkable achievement to your classroom and continue to
explore space with lessons and resources from Verizon Thinkfinity.
This lesson, with a student E-Sheet and a podcast interview with the author, makes use of the book, Team Moon: How 400,000 People Landed Apollo 11 on the Moon, by Catherine Thimmesh (Houghton Mifflin, 2006). Students read Team Moon and then divide into teams to further investigate the challenges of the Apollo 11 mission.
In this calendar entry
from ReadWriteThink, listen to Neil Armstrong as he stepped onto the
moon (audio from NASA), and explore his famous sentiment by discussing
the all-important difference one word can make.
In this student activity from Xpeditions, students are assigned the task of helping NASA plan future missions to Mars!
In this math lesson,
students consider the amount of time that space travelers need to
travel to the four terrestrial planets. Students also think about what
events might occur on Earth while the space travelers are on their
journey.
